GRIFFIN AWARDS


Twice, Ewing & McConnaughy has been honored with the Griffin Award for outstanding renovations by The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County.


There are additional home renovation, restoration and commercial projects shown in our portfolio section.

Renovation: Swannanoa Valley Museum in downtown Black Mountain, the former Black Mountain Fire Department. The building was designed and built by Richard Sharp Smith, supervising architect of the Biltmore Estate. Restoration work done in 2008 was awarded a Griffin Award for exterior commercial restoration by The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County in 2009.

Renovation: 141 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville. Our work on this historic home was awarded the Griffin Award by The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County in 2000 for commercial rehabilitation.

NEW CONSTRUCTION


Mountain Air cabins, Hawk’s Ledge Cottage, atop Mountain Air’s Slickrock Village. This project was honored with several awards in 2006:


Best in Region–Middle Atlantic

–23rd Annual Best in American Living Awards, NAHB & Professional Builder Magazine


National Gold Award for Best Single-Family Detached Home under 1,500 sq. ft.


National Silver Award for Best Single-Family Detached Home priced from $650K-$1 million.


Indigenous materials and local craftsmen were used extensively. A local blacksmith crafted the wrought iron railings, and stone masons used stone on the property. Colors and other wood elements tie back to historic uses of wood found in old area tobacco barns.
